The Mai Tai Guy is one that enjoys a nice cocktail here and there. I live in the
small beach town, San Clemente in beautiful Southern California. From Jersey originally, but married an amazing girl from Irvine, California. Guess what, her name is Tye as well. We have three girls together 6, 3, and 1. My wife and I work our tail off at work and parenting. We enjoy being outside, hanging with friends, and critiquing the little things - Larry David or Seinfeld like. One thing I have always enjoyed is a Mai Tai. I take an hour out of each weekend, enjoy and critique a Mai Tai, and embrace the Mai Tai culture. I am “The Mai Tai Guy”
Started in California and was hugely popular in the 1960s. People have argued it was started by Trader Vic’s restaurant or Donn Beach, who was the founder of Tiki Culture and opened Don the Beach Comber. It is rum-based with lime, orgeat, and orange liquor. One of the great things about the Mai Tai is that there are many different styles with varieties of different juices. I like an original recipe with a 151 floater, but it’s totally up to you. I want to have a cocktail remind me of being on a beach sitting by the tiki bar.
Lifestyle is a South Pacific Hawaiian island like culture. Restaurants and bars were developed in the 50’s and 60’s with a tiki theme.
What you should feel sipping a Mai Tai?
Warm humid weather, island music playing in the background, and you cool off with either a cold cocktail or a dip in the pool or ocean. Check out the movie “Blue Hawaii” starring Elvis Presley

Came in a nice ice cream pint container. Nice looking garnish for a to-go drink. There was little on the orgeat but a good mix of juices. Love their wine country burger and chicken schnitzel. Gave it a 7.8 but great place to go overall for a date night.
Never been to this restaurant other than getting this takeout. Atmosphere looked great and food was amazing. Looking forward to pandemic being over and being able to grab brunch on their patio. Flavor of Mai Tai was nice. Picked up the almond from the orgeat. Not fruit forward, not heavy alcohol, but just a well-balanced drink. 8.2 for the review.
On Christmas break with the family in Palm Springs, so great attitude going into the review. Liked the to-go packaging and for $25 bucks you get a tiki glass. Says it makes 4 cocktails, but not the way I pour. 8.7 for the score with solid grapefruit flavor and packaging. Will be back next time I’m out there.
Solid all the way around except a little too fruit forward. Believe it was a bit too much triple sec or lime. Great garnish with the tiki umbrella and always enjoy a Mai Tai with family. Solid 8.8
Christmas review for a Mai Tai with a tiki glass and a 151 floater. Solid all the way around and can’t go wrong with the floater. Papa Beeson in a Santa kitchen apron even made it better. 9.1 for the holiday score.
Great Tiki bar in downtown Oakland with the vibe that is classic. Unique rums everywhere, bartenders in Hawaiian shirts, and they sell tiki glasses. Great blend of rums, orgeat, and lime juice. Simple and delicious. Burger was tasty too. 9.1 and I will be back
Solid Burger Restaurant and all around amazing bar in Dana Point. Ice in the drink and still heavy citrus fruit. I would order outside on a hot day. Overall not the best situation to enjoy a Mai Tai, but a 7.7.
Our favorite restaurant in San Clemente and they have one in multiple beach towns. The drink is called “Nick’s Mai Tai” and it did not live up to being a signature drink. Not much flavor at all and no punch whatsoever. Might have been a bad night for the bartender and will give them another shot.
First Mai Tai I have reviewed that had grenadine, but it didn’t over power the drink. It changes up the flavor profile but enjoyed it thoroughly. Place is great inside with fresh calamari and craft American fare. Overall recommend the place highly with a Mai Tai score of 8.2.
Love enjoying a nice Mai Tai on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. This restaurant is kid friendly and has a beautiful patio. Service is great especially the bartender Frankie. Mai Tai is refreshing but not my style. Give it a 7.8 but fish and burger are delicious
